Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro Keeps Italian Passport After Brazil Cancels His Documents
Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro holds Italian citizenship obtained in 2023, allowing him to travel internationally with an Italian passport even after Brazilian authorities canceled his Brazilian documents. The revelation follows Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordering the senator to surrender his passports. The Italian government confirmed in June 2025 that Flávio and his brother Eduardo received Italian citizenship in 2023, with Carlos Bolsonaro completing the process in 2024. Brazilian Federal Police cannot cancel passports issued by foreign countries. Moraes ordered Flávio to surrender all passports by Tuesday morning, leading to the cancellation of his Brazilian documents when he failed to comply. The Bolsonaro family has faced repeated judicial measures from Moraes, including restrictions on Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently in preventive detention. Eduardo Bolsonaro also had his passports canceled after a conviction, and Flávio's social media posts previously led to a 90-day suspension of visits to his father.
