Brazilian Court Upholds Ban on Flávio Bolsonaro Leaving Country
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ruled that prohibiting Senator Flávio Bolsonaro from leaving the country was a "logical and natural" consequence of the order to cancel and surrender his passport, citing a concrete risk of flight. The decision was issued Monday following a Federal Police request. Moraes stated the precautionary measures were necessary, adequate, and proportional for the current investigation phase, imposing limits less severe than preventive detention while protecting public order and penal law enforcement. The Federal Police cited three risk factors: public advice from Eduardo Bolsonaro urging his brother to leave, significant economic power, and established structures abroad. The police also noted ongoing investigations into whether funds from former banker Daniel Vorcaro, transferred via money changer Antonio Freixo, financed Eduardo Bolsonaro's long-term stay in the United States. Both Flávio and Eduardo deny any wrongdoing.
