Flavio Bolsonaro revises letter to call himself Brazil's leader after US exit
Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro revised a public letter to call himself "leader of Brazil" just 20 minutes after initially declaring himself the "true President of Brazil" in a statement posted on social media following his departure to the United States. In the original letter published Wednesday, Bolsonaro thanked Donald Trump and Javier Milei, alleged without evidence that Brazil's elections were fraudulent, and claimed to be a victim of political persecution by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. He left Brazil one day after being ordered to surrender his passports and banned from leaving the country, amid investigations into money laundering involving his associates and a film about his father. Bolsonaro denies fleeing, saying he left "for Brazil" to protect his family and lead the opposition from the US, while refusing to concede defeat to Lula da Silva in Sunday's presidential election. His brother Carlos Bolsonaro, after visiting their detained father Jair Bolsonaro, emotionally apologized saying "we failed."
