Støre and Stubb launch global appeal for AI oversight

Støre warns that AI poses significant security risks requiring political action and clear expectations for tech companies. Stubb describes AI as the most impactful technology in human history, affecting science, economy, politics, and security, and advocates for international cooperation over competition or slowing development. Støre emphasizes that AI development must proceed at a controlled pace, ensuring safety, legal compliance, and prevention of harm. Digitalization Minister Torgeir Micaelsen argues regulation is the only option since research is concentrated among a few companies and countries. The appeal follows warnings from AI executives like Anthropic's Dario Amodei, OpenAI's Sam Altman, and xAI's Elon Musk, though researcher Ishita Barua notes such warnings coincide with Anthropic's upcoming stock listing.
