Macron and Trump agree to cooperate on reopening Hormuz shipping
French President Emmanuel Macron announced an agreement with US President Donald Trump to coordinate efforts to reduce energy market tensions and ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The two leaders also intend to pursue a moratorium on strikes against Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Macron stated on X that Paris and Washington decided to act jointly to protect critical infrastructure in the Middle East and secure shipping routes. The agreement follows their meeting, with both sides emphasizing the importance of stabilizing energy markets amid regional tensions. The announcement comes as the 81st UN General Assembly session begins September 22 in New York, where world leaders will gather for high-level debates. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to address the assembly on September 26.
