Brazilian Parties Recognize Lula's Re-election Win
Fifteen Brazilian political parties had publicly recognized President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's re-election victory by 1 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, following Sunday's runoff. Lula won a fourth term with 51.8% of valid votes against 48.2% for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. Seven parties were in Lula's formal coalition from the first round, including PT, PC do B, PV, PSB, PDT, Psol, and Rede. Eight additional parties recognized the win, including Republicanos and Podemos, which had supported Bolsonaro in the runoff. Thirteen parties, including PP, PL, and Novo, had not yet issued statements. Bolsonaro contested the election and said he would request its annulment, calling the result "unacceptable." Electoral court president Kassio Nunes Marques confirmed Lula's victory, stating the vote was secure. Voting hours were extended nationwide to 7 p.m. due to transport issues and heavy rains.
