Flávio Bolsonaro drops election challenge, sues Lula for abuse of power

dn.pt (Portuguese) —

Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro has dropped his bid to annul the election won by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, but will pursue a legal action against the president-elect for alleged abuse of power. The PL party leadership advised Bolsonaro to abandon the election challenge after Lula won 51.79% of votes against his 48.21%. Bolsonaro had previously contested the result due to a two-hour voting extension granted by Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin. Bolsonaro now accuses Lula of using public funds for "the biggest vote-buying in history" and seeks to have the PT ticket annulled. He also claimed he was ordered to surrender his passports and is barred from leaving Brazil.
