Brazil's Liberal Party Concedes Lula's Presidential Victory
Brazil's Liberal Party (PL), the political group of far-right senator Flavio Bolsonaro, conceded Monday the presidential election results that ended Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's re-election bid. PL president Valdemar Costa Neto acknowledged the outcome proclaimed by the Superior Electoral Court in a letter, while requesting that raised questions be clarified. Lula won Sunday's runoff with 52% of votes against Bolsonaro's 48%, a margin of over four million votes. Bolsonaro refused to concede, vowing to seek annulment over the Supreme Court's last-minute voting extension. The PL claimed government spending before the vote compromised fairness, while Bolsonaro pledged to organize opposition in Congress against what he called "four more years of Lula."
