Trump Calls Brazil's Presidential Election Rigged
US President Donald Trump called Brazil's presidential election "rigged" on Monday, following the victory of center-left candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva over conservative Flavio Bolsonaro. Trump cited concerns about the vote counting process and a two-hour voting extension as reasons for his criticism. Trump said he did not officially support any candidate but had previously hailed Bolsonaro's first-round win. Lula secured re-election with 51.8% of the vote against Bolsonaro's 48.2%, defying predictions in the runoff. Flavio Bolsonaro is the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who was sentenced to 27 years in prison for an attempted coup. Trump made the remarks before a campaign rally ahead of the US midterm elections on November 3.
