Brazil's Liberal Party Recognizes Election Result, Bolsonaro to Lead Opposition
Brazil's Liberal Party (PL) has formally recognized the presidential election result, despite raising concerns about the voting process. The party stated it acknowledges the outcome but believes the issues raised must be addressed. Flávio Bolsonaro, son of jailed former President Jair Bolsonaro, had criticized the extension of polling station hours on Sunday evening, calling it "unacceptable" after requesting the extension himself. He has since announced he will lead the opposition against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Lula won Sunday's runoff with 51.8 percent of the vote, securing about 4.4 million more votes than his opponent. The 81-year-old president, who celebrates his birthday Tuesday, has now secured his fourth term as president of Brazil.
