BBC finds 33,866 votes cast in Zanin-ordered extension, 130 times smaller than Lula's lead over Flávio

bbc.com (Portuguese) —

A BBC News Brasil investigation identified 33,866 presidential votes cast after 5 PM on Sunday, October 25, during a two-hour voting extension ordered by Supreme Court Minister Cristiano Zanin. This represents 0.026% of the 128,236,074 total votes in the runoff. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received 64,256,232 votes versus 59,826,041 for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, a margin of 4,401,534 votes—130 times the number cast after 5 PM. The extension was requested by both campaigns due to transport issues and rain, but only applied to polls still open. Flávio Bolsonaro cited the extension to contest the result, though TSE President Kássio Nunes Marques said it caused no electoral change. Similar analyses by Folha de S.Paulo and G1 found comparable figures, with most late votes concentrated in the first minutes after 5 PM.
