Lula expands São Paulo dominance with North Zone gains

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won 43 of São Paulo's 57 electoral zones in the 2026 election, defeating rival Flávio Bolsonaro, who took 14 zones. This improves on Lula's 2022 performance, when he won 35 zones against 23 for Jair Bolsonaro. Of the eight zones Lula flipped, four are in the North Zone: Casa Verde, Nossa Senhora do Ó, Pirituba, and Jaçanã/Lauzane Paulista. The remaining flipped zones were Saúde, Butantã, Sapopemba, and Cangaíba. The North Zone gains were pivotal in expanding Lula's dominance across the city.
