Brazilian advisor says Trump 'misinformed' on election, accuses Meta of fraud
Brazilian presidential advisor Celso Amorim said Monday that Donald Trump is "misinformed" about Brazil's elections, accusing Meta of attempting electoral fraud after Trump claimed the vote "seemed like a rigged election." Amorim said Trump's statement was contradictory since he also praised President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who won re-election Sunday with 51.79% of votes against Flávio Bolsonaro's 48.21%. Lula's campaign alleges Meta restricted posts to favor his opponent, though the platform admitted only to technical failures. Vice President Geraldo Alckmin called Trump's remarks "totally mistaken," saying foreign leaders cannot interfere in other countries' elections. Brazilian markets reacted sharply, with the Ibovespa falling 13.88% and the dollar surging 8.21% to R$5.40.
