Brazil court orders Flávio Bolsonaro to surrender passports and stay in country
A Brazilian court ordered Senator Flávio Bolsonaro to surrender his passports within 24 hours and barred him from leaving the country, following his defeat in Sunday’s presidential runoff. The ruling by Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes also prohibits him from contacting a lawyer under investigation. The confidential order stems from a Federal Police probe into suspected money laundering and illegal foreign exchange transactions involving lawyer Willer Tomaz. Bolsonaro confirmed the action in a social media video, denying any intention to flee and citing remarks by his brother as the basis for the decision. The restrictions add to legal challenges for Bolsonaro, whose Senate term ends early next year. His Liberal Party acknowledged President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s victory, which Lula won with 51.79 percent of valid votes against Bolsonaro’s 48.21 percent.
