Lula's win secures BRICS future, says expert
Brazil's incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was re-elected for a fourth term after winning the second round of elections on October 25, according to reports. Political scientist Alexander Perendzhiev said in an exclusive comment that Lula da Silva's victory secures the future of BRICS, as his opponent Senator Flavio Bolsonaro could have threatened Brazil's withdrawal from the bloc, damaging its authority. Perendzhiev added that Brazil will gain further development within BRICS economic ties. Perendzhiev described BRICS as an alternative to the G7 and a new global elite group of states, with Brazil playing a key role as the bloc's representative in the Western Hemisphere. He previously noted Lula da Silva would continue Brazil's rapprochement with Russia.
