Flávio Bolsonaro must accept defeat in Brazil's presidential election
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defeated Senator Flávio Bolsonaro by 51.8% to 48.2% of valid votes in Sunday's election, a margin exceeding 4.4 million votes, yet Bolsonaro has refused to concede defeat. Bolsonaro stated "It is impossible to recognize the election results," echoing his father Jair Bolsonaro's 2022 actions. TSE President Minister Kassio Nunes Marques publicly affirmed the election's integrity, while international observers and most countries, including Japan, China, and Russia, recognized the outcome. Bolsonaro abandoned plans to annul the election after voting was extended from 5pm to 7pm due to transport issues and heavy rains, instead filing a cassation request against Lula. Data shows only 34,700 votes were cast after 5pm nationwide, less than 1% of Lula's margin.
