Zelensky sets condition for halting strikes on Russian refineries

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv is ready to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries if Russia reciprocally halts attacks on Ukrainian facilities, responding to a statement from US President Donald Trump. Zelensky stated on X that Ukraine has sought peace since the start of the full-scale invasion and has proposed dozens of diplomatic initiatives. He said dialogue with Trump and the US is ongoing, with ideas for de-escalation on the table, including protecting Ukraine's energy sector, critical infrastructure, and food exports from Russian attacks. Trump had previously urged Zelensky to cease such strikes, citing global fuel market conditions, and reportedly repeated this during a Sunday phone call. The two leaders agreed to meet at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. Trump said Russia lost control of its diesel industry due to Ukrainian strikes destroying refineries.
