Flavio Bolsonaro's letter: Who are the exiled leaders he cited?
Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, defeated in Sunday's election, published an open letter Wednesday vowing to lead opposition to President Lula's government from the United States, citing historical figures who led resistance from exile. Flavio initially called himself the "true elected president of Brazil" but edited the post 23 minutes later to "leader of Brazil." He arrived in the US after his passport was cancelled by federal police amid a money laundering investigation involving him and lawyer Willer Tomaz. The letter references Rui Barbosa, who opposed President Floriano Peixoto from exile in the 1890s; Charles de Gaulle, who led the Free French from London during World War II; Cuban independence hero José Martí; and Venezuelan opposition figures Juan Guaidó, Edmundo González, and María Corina Machado.
