São Paulo governor advised Flávio Bolsonaro against leaving Brazil
São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas said he advised Senator Flávio Bolsonaro not to leave Brazil following his presidential election defeat, but stated he does not judge the decision to flee to the United States. The governor made the comments in an interview published Wednesday. Tarcísio claimed he was unaware of the escape plan and cited alleged political abuse during President Lula's re-election campaign. He said he and others advised Flávio to use legal remedies instead of leaving, while questioning a Federal Police request to seize his passport minutes after the result. Flávio fled Brazil with his family citing threats from Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The Federal Police requested his passport seizure seven minutes after the election result was announced, which Lula won with 51.79% of the vote against Flávio's 48.21%.
