23 parties recognize Lula's re-election victory in Brazil

g1.globo.com (Portuguese) —

At least 23 Brazilian political parties have publicly recognized President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's re-election victory, according to a TV Globo survey. The defeated candidate, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, fled the country and disputed the results. The survey, based on official notes and public statements, excludes Lula's own PT party. Among those recognizing the victory are the PL, Bolsonaro's party, alongside União Brasil, MDB, PSD, and PSDB. The Novo party questioned the country's democratic status, while five other parties remained silent. The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) certified the election's regularity on Sunday. Flávio Bolsonaro, now in the United States, released a letter alleging fraud and claiming to be the "true president," though he later softened his language. TSE President Kassio Nunes Marques affirmed the elections proceeded with "absolute normality."
