Bolsonaro unaware of son's US flight, says party chief
The president of Brazil's Liberal Party (PL), Valdemar Costa Neto, said Thursday that former President Jair Bolsonaro was unaware of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro's plan to flee to the United States following his election defeat. Costa Neto stated that no one, including himself, knew about the departure. Flávio visited his father on Monday, the day after the election, and arrived in the US on Wednesday with his family. Costa Neto said the party does not approve of the flight but understands the difficult situation. The senator published a letter with coup-like content, initially calling himself the "true elected president" before editing it. The PL leadership had officially recognized the election results, and the letter drew criticism from the judiciary and even campaign supporters.
