Brazilian immigrants in Miami split over Flávio Bolsonaro's arrival
Flávio Bolsonaro's arrival in Miami on Wednesday has divided Brazilian immigrants in the city, with both supporters and opponents expressing shock and disappointment over the right-wing candidate's decision to flee Brazil after losing Sunday's presidential runoff. Luciana Ferri, a 61-year-old Brazilian lawyer in Miami Beach, criticized Bolsonaro's departure as cowardly, noting the contrast with immigrants facing US law enforcement, while also expressing reluctance about President Lula's fourth term. Bolsonaro supporter Bruno Baiao called the election "a fraud" and said he feels "helpless," though he acknowledged the candidate's safety concerns. Bolsonaro arrived on a private flight with his family after receiving last-minute US visas, having initially contested the election results before withdrawing his request and declaring himself opposition leader. Joseph Lima, a Lula voter, said Bolsonaro's presence is acceptable only if he stays out of politics.
