Italy identifies truckers behind southern roadblocks, minister warns of jail time
Italian Industry Minister Adolfo Urso told parliament that authorities are identifying truck drivers involved in roadblocks in southern Italy, warning that blocking truck traffic constitutes a road offense with potential jail time. The interior ministry is working to remove the protests. Urso stated that blocking only trucks while allowing cars through still qualifies as a roadblock with criminal consequences. Transport associations have officially requested the removal of remaining sporadic blockades, judging the government's measures from the previous day favorably and considering continued protests unjustifiable after dialogue reopened. The minister added that industrial associations in southern Italy and consumer groups have made similar appeals. All protest forms were suspended following the government's measures, though some isolated demonstrations remain on the ground.
