Stolen luxury goods flood French online markets after riots

kurier.at (German) —

Following widespread looting during violent protests in France, suspiciously cheap luxury goods have appeared on online marketplaces, prompting Vinted to remove listings and announce stricter controls. The government plans to meet with platforms to combat the sale of stolen goods. Over 2,400 people were arrested and at least 3,000 stores were damaged or looted during demonstrations against high living costs. Vinted stated it has identified and removed suspicious offers since the weekend, enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against stolen goods with permanent account bans. French Trade Minister Serge Papin has invited Vinted, Amazon, eBay, and TikTok to talks with interior and justice ministries. Vinted is already cooperating with French authorities to improve detection mechanisms for suspicious listings and abusive behavior.
