Lecornu to visit Limoges after city hall fire; anti-terror prosecutor may take case
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu will visit Limoges on Friday, October 23, following the fire that destroyed the city hall during violent protests on October 17. The national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office may also take over the case. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin said the anti-terrorist prosecutor is observing the situation and could seize the case, which would classify the act as terrorism. Authorities estimate 5,000 people attended the protest, including 700 described as "radicalized and extremely violent." The burning of the historic city hall, a registered monument, drew international attention. Lecornu announced new curfews for Tuesday evening in cities where needed, following a calmer Monday night in Paris, Lille, Lyon, and Bordeaux.
