Who Were the Rioters in France's Protest Violence?
France is reeling from the violent escalation during a nationwide protest day. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu blames far-left activists for the unrest, describing their actions as methodically and digitally organized. However, authorities report a more complex picture. Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau cannot confirm the government's interpretation, noting two distinct groups: organized political rioters and non-politicized looters who exploited the chaos. Many looters came from Paris suburbs like Seine-Saint-Denis and Nanterre. Around 2,500 people were taken into police custody, with nearly 150 already imprisoned. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin stated that 95 percent of the perpetrators were men, 70 percent adults, including both immigrants and fully integrated French citizens.
