Milan clashes: minister sees no orchestration, mayor disagrees; 500 paratroopers deployed

tgcom24.mediaset.it (Italian) —

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said there is currently no evidence of external orchestration behind weekend violence in Milan, a position disputed by Mayor Giuseppe Sala. Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini announced 500 paratroopers will be deployed to the city. Following a public security committee meeting, Piantedosi emphasized the youths' behavior appeared spontaneous, though violence was organized via social media. He stressed citizens should not fear living normally. Investigations identified two minors, an 11-year-old Italian and a 16-year-old, from surveillance footage. Sala said infiltration attempts cannot be ruled out, noting youths admitted joining for fun rather than political motives, calling them easily manipulable. He urged political action on social media misuse. Salvini said the paratroopers, with foreign experience, will reinforce security in sensitive areas.
