France Riots: Minister Sees Far-Left and Migrant Milieu Unite
Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has sharply condemned the riots in France, claiming far-left extremists and a "migrant milieu" have united in a violent fight against democracy. He stated that those turning streets into battlefields are not demonstrating for better education but waging an armed struggle. French authorities present a more nuanced picture, though security assessments confirm a "convergence" between ultra-left activists and less politicized youth from marginalized neighborhoods during the October 17 protests. Intelligence notes warned of a "convergence of radicalities" but described the movement as unorganized and lacking clear leadership, with no evidence of a formal alliance. Paris's chief prosecutor cautioned against concluding arrestees were primarily ultra-left, noting many were unknown to police with no political affiliation. Reports estimate around 20 percent of Paris arrestees belong to the ultra-left, while 80 percent were opportunistic looters. Nearly 1,000 police were injured, and over 2,300 people were arrested.
