French PM: Curfew ensured calm night after protests in Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux

dn.pt (Portuguese) —

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said Tuesday that the mandatory curfew ensured a quiet night in France following weekend unrest. The measures will continue where necessary to contain protests and disturbances. Lecornu stated the curfew contributed to the night's calm, with restrictions applied in parts of Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Lille, and Nice. He confirmed measures would be reimposed where needed, thanking police, mayors, and local authorities for their mobilization. The unrest began with student protests over school conditions but expanded into broader disturbances, including an attack on Limoges city hall. Over 2,513 people were detained, and new protests are planned for Saturday, October 24.
