French marketplaces join police to flag riot-looted goods

rtl.be (French) —

French authorities have enlisted major online marketplaces to help identify and report goods stolen during last weekend's riots, following a surge of suspicious listings on these platforms. Vinted, Amazon, eBay, Leboncoin, Meta, TikTok, and e-commerce federations met Monday with trade and digital ministers, plus interior and justice officials. They committed to enhanced moderation, flagging suspicious listings, sharing data with investigators, and warning consumers about penalties for handling stolen goods. Platforms must report removal statistics within 48 hours. Over 3,000 shops were damaged during protests against high living costs, with shelves emptied by rioters.
