France imposes new curfews after riots hit 3,000 businesses
France will impose new curfews in areas where needed on Tuesday, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said, adding that measures introduced in several cities the previous day had helped keep the night calm. Targeted curfews in Paris, Bordeaux, and Nice contributed to a night without major incidents, police confirmed, following urban unrest linked to student demonstrations over poor high school conditions. New restrictions will be decided locally by prefects in coordination with mayors. The government scheduled emergency meetings Tuesday, including with social media platforms, after riots hit at least 3,000 businesses. Finance Minister Roland Lescure pledged support for shopkeepers, while Medef chief Patrick Martin accused the state of having failed.
