French presidential race stable after riots, first post-unrest poll shows
The first post-riot poll shows little change in French presidential voter intentions, with far-right front-runner Marine Le Pen still leading and far-left candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon in a close race for second place. The Ifop-Fiducial survey, conducted from Saturday evening through Monday, found Le Pen at 34-38% across scenarios, while Mélenchon's support remained stable despite government blame for the violence. His lead over rivals Edouard Philippe and Raphaël Glucksmann is within the margin of error in some cases. Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said she could not confirm the government's analysis of arrested suspects. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu ordered a massive police deployment for upcoming protests, with elite units mobilized and local curfews renewed.
