Italy tightens security after Milan clashes; cabinet approves decree law
Following violent clashes in Milan, the Italian government is moving towards a crackdown, with a Cabinet meeting scheduled today to approve a decree law. President Sergio Mattarella expressed solidarity with police and condemned the violence. The decree will extend preventive detention to 24 hours and increase military patrols in cities. Fourteen police officers were injured, 271 people were taken to the police station, and damages are estimated at one million euros. The government is also considering measures targeting minors, including extending preventive detention to under-18s. Political reactions are divided, with some calling for dialogue and social investment, while others suspect foreign orchestration behind the unrest.
