New curfews announced for Tuesday evening in French cities
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced Tuesday that new partial curfews will be imposed that evening in areas deemed necessary, following what he said was a calmer night after the previous day's measures in cities like Paris, Lyon, and Lille. Prefects will decide on the new restrictions in coordination with mayors, Lecornu stated on social media. Police and firefighters confirmed the night was quiet nationwide, with an exceptional security device including a gendarmerie helicopter over central Paris. The curfews respond to urban violence during Saturday's cost-of-living protests. While some restrictions, like Paris's, applied only to Monday night, others in Bordeaux and Nice will last several days. New protests are planned for Saturday.
