Trump blames Macron's immigration policy for France riots
US President Donald Trump blamed French President Emmanuel Macron's immigration policies for unrest in France, claiming Paris will soon be a Muslim city. Trump said he had warned Macron years ago against allowing large numbers of immigrants to enter the country. French authorities imposed localised curfews in Paris, Lille, Nice and other cities after a weekend of riots, looting and clashes. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said targeted restrictions were suitable, without ruling out a state of emergency, as the Interior Ministry reported about 2,400 arrests and nearly 1,000 police officers injured. Macron condemned the violence in a televised address, saying nothing justifies the destruction, while distinguishing peaceful protesters from vandals. The unrest affected nearly 3,000 shops, increasing pressure on the government to restore order ahead of the next presidential election.
