Yellow Vests plan Paris march as France faces new unrest test
France's Yellow Vest movement has filed plans for a major march through Paris on Saturday, presenting the government with a key test after riots and looting last weekend shook confidence in its ability to maintain order. Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu was due to meet union leaders on Wednesday to defuse the crisis. The grassroots group, not tied to unions, plans to march across central Paris, including areas ransacked on October 17. Student groups have also called for protests that day. Last weekend's violence overwhelmed police in several cities, and French 10-year bond yields have risen to 5%, their highest since July 2002, amid investor concern. President Emmanuel Macron will meet intelligence services on Thursday, with troops expected to be deployed alongside police for the new protests. The unrest has sparked political backlash ahead of next year's presidential elections, with far-right and hard-left candidates polling strongly. Protests in Italy and Albania have also raised concerns about living standards unrest across Europe.
