Ukrainian Strike on Moscow Refinery Paralyzes 4% of Russia's Oil Processing

An attack on the Moscow oil refinery on September 20 paralyzed approximately 4% of Russia's refining capacity, bringing the total paralyzed capacity for September to about 14%. The Moscow refinery has an annual capacity of about 12.15 million tons of oil. The strike hit the AVT-6 primary processing unit, a complex oil processing unit, and an isomerization unit, causing a large fire. Ukrainian forces reported the refinery, located near Kapotnya about 15 km from the Kremlin, was hit by long-range drones that bypassed layered air defenses. Prior to this attack, about 10% of Russian refining capacity had been paralyzed since early September.
