Saudi Arabia says it intercepted a Houthi missile aimed at Riyadh

Saudi Arabia confirmed Yemen's Houthi forces attempted to strike Riyadh with a ballistic missile, marking the first such attack on the capital since fighting escalated with the Tehran-backed movement. The coalition said the missile was intercepted, with no casualties or damage reported. The Saturday statement said the dawn attempt was thwarted, though Riyadh residents heard an explosion and saw smoke near the airport. The Houthis also reportedly targeted civilian infrastructure in Yanbu, Taif, Baysh, and Farasan, with the group claiming strikes on "sensitive sites" and Aramco facilities. The attack follows recent Houthi advances along the Red Sea coast, including seizing Mokha and islands in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Saudi Arabia reported its first civilian casualty from Houthi drone debris on Thursday, while the Houthis denied allegations of an attempted drone attack on Mecca.
