Russia launches jet-powered Shahed drone attacks on Kyiv and regions

On the evening of September 20, Russia launched a drone attack on Kyiv and several Ukrainian regions using jet-powered Shahed drones, with air alerts active across multiple areas. Explosions were reported in Kyiv around 19:30, and Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed a fire in a Holosiivskyi district park caused by a drone fall. Ukrainian Air Force warnings tracked Shaheds moving toward Kyiv, Cherkasy, Poltava, and other regions, with guided bombs also released on Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. By 21:24, yellow-level air alerts were in place for Kyiv and most of Kyiv Oblast, while red-level alerts covered parts of Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk oblasts. Alerts in Kharkiv Oblast varied by district, with some areas still under warning.
