Ukraine launches 1,000 drones at Russia, hundreds target Moscow

Ukrainian forces launched more than 1,000 drones at Russia overnight, including hundreds aimed at Moscow, officials said Sunday, marking what Moscow's mayor called the largest-ever drone attack on the Russian capital and causing damage to an oil refinery and residential buildings. The attack killed two people and wounded 20 across the wider Moscow region, local Gov. Andrei Vorobyov said, with victims including a 74-year-old man anda 44-year-old woman. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 450 drones were destroyed en route to the city, and he described the assault as an attempt to disrupt Russia's parliamentary elections, which concluded Sunday. Ukraine has become a global leader in military drone technology since Russia's invasion over four years ago, deploying domestically produced long-range drones and missiles for deep strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack targeted oil and logistics facilities to pressure Russia's economy, while Russia's Defence Ministry reported shooting down 1,110 drones total, including over Crimea.
