Saudi Arabia hits Houthis with 28 strikes in Yemen after Riyadh attacks

Saudi Arabia launched 28 airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen over the past 24 hours, the Houthis said Sunday, escalating tit-for-tat strikes between the two sides. The strikes, conducted by F-15 and Typhoon aircraft from Khamis Mushait and Taif bases, targeted Taiz, Al-Jawf, and Marib governorates, bringing the total to 760 airstrikes in the latest conflict episode, according to Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree. The escalation follows Houthi missile and drone attacks on Riyadh, which Saudi Arabia said targeted civilians. The conflict spiked after Houthis captured Mocha port and Perim island, tightening their chokehold on the Red Sea, through which 12 per cent of global seaborne oil passes. Iraqi militia attacks have also taken the East-West pipeline offline, while US President Donald Trump's refusal to intervene has left Saudi Arabia defending itself alone.
