US informs allies it won't strike Iran for now, focuses on sanctions and naval pressure

The US intends to focus on other tools of pressure on Tehran, including sanctions, a naval blockade, and intercepting oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. Secretary of State Marco Rubio communicated this to foreign ministers of various states, though Washington has not ruled out resuming attacks if Iran strikes first. The White House reportedly plans to follow this tactic at least until the November congressional elections. A US administration representative said Washington is not negotiating with Iran but believes pressure could facilitate renewed dialogue. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton previously warned that US military reserves may be depleted after operations against Iran.
