Trump Calls World Leaders to Tighten Iran Sanctions

The United States announced new sanctions against Iran and stricter enforcement of existing measures, threatening to cut entities enabling Iranian money laundering off from the dollar system, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Monday. The Treasury will sanction about 60 actors and has mapped Iran's current sanction-evasion and oil-smuggling methods. President Donald Trump will personally call world leaders to demand they end cooperation with Iran, with calls already initiated. Bessent called the effort "Operation Economic Pariah" and said further sanctions on a "significant institution" will come this week. He gave no timeline for the dollar-system threat, which would severely hamper foreign trade.
