Iran and Oman seek interim reopening of Strait of Hormuz

Iran and Oman are pushing for an interim reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which has been largely closed since March, according to a joint statement. The talks focus on resuming shipping through the key waterway. The proposed "interim framework" includes a temporary joint maritime corridor and mine clearance to restore safe navigation. Technical discussions will continue toward a permanent corridor, covering future administration, information exchange, and traffic management. The strait previously carried about a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas. The closure has disrupted global energy supplies, making these negotiations critical for restoring normal trade flows.
