Iran and Oman agree on temporary Hormuz shipping route

Iran and Oman have agreed on a temporary shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's deputy foreign minister announced early Wednesday. The route will see vessels enter the strait via Iranian territorial waters, with part of the exit path also passing through them. The initial proposal came from Iranian military officials, and the two countries discussed it for about 40 days. This temporary arrangement replaces a southern route that Oman had agreed to under U.S. pressure, according to the diplomat. He stressed the strait is not fully reopening, as traffic can only resume after the conflict with the U.S. ends.
