Iran and Oman agree on temporary Strait of Hormuz transit route

Iran and Oman have agreed on a temporary seven-mile transit route through the Strait of Hormuz, with entry and part of the exit passing through Iranian territorial waters. The agreement marks the closure of a southern route opened by the US. Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the route's activation closes the US-opened southern passage, which he claimed violated a bilateral memorandum. The proposed map originated from Iran's armed forces, with further negotiations planned for a permanent arrangement. Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi stated any permanent solution must be based on the collapsed June Iran-US agreement protocol. Both countries agreed to continue technical talks and involve other Gulf states in managing the strait's security and navigation services.
