Oman and Iran negotiate Hormuz corridor but no reopening deal

Oman and Iran are negotiating a temporary navigation corridor and mine clearance in the Strait of Hormuz, but Tehran warned Wednesday the strategic passage will not reopen without broader conditions being met. The foreign ministers of both countries discussed a framework agreement in Muscat on Tuesday for a temporary corridor and demining operation. However, Iran's deputy foreign minister stated the strait will only reopen in exchange for ending the war on all fronts, lifting the blockade, and settling the situation in Yemen. The strait has been largely closed by Tehran for six months since the war began, disrupting a fifth of global hydrocarbon traffic and spiking oil prices. Washington has imposed new secondary sanctions on Iran's trading partners, while President Trump claimed all mines have been removed, a statement Tehran disputes.
