US to intensify economic pressure on Iran, State Department says

The United States will soon take concrete steps to increase economic pressure on Iran, a State Department official said. Washington aims to cut off funding sources for the Iranian government. State Department representative Tommy Pigott stated that the US Treasury has identified all structures assisting Iran with financial problems. He warned that measures would follow a warning issued by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Bessent said Tuesday that Washington is prepared to impose secondary sanctions on parties conducting certain trade with Iran. The US will inform other countries how much time they have to end interactions with Tehran.
