Oil tanker hit by unknown projectile off Oman coast

An oil tanker was hit by an "unknown projectile" off the coast of Oman, damaging the engine room and leaving the vessel inoperable, according to the British maritime agency UKMTO. The incident occurred 9 nautical miles northeast of the Omani city of Ash Shishah in the Strait of Hormuz. The UKMTO did not disclose the tanker's nationality or direction, stated the crew is safe, and requested vessels in the area to proceed with caution. Ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz have been frequent targets since the US-Israeli military offensive against Iran began on February 28. A separate tanker was also hit by a projectile in the Red Sea near the Saudi port of Yanbu, where Houthi rebels have attacked Saudi vessels since late July.
