US Expands Sanctions Targeting Iran's Economy
US Treasury Secretary Bessent announced expanded sanctions aimed at "strangling Iran's economy," while Tehran claims it has prepared response plans. The measures target digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. The US imposed new sanctions on 60 individuals, companies, and ships suspected of helping Iran generate oil revenue, purchase weapons, and conduct cyber activities. Entities in the UAE, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, and Europe are affected. Secretary Bessent warned non-participating nations would face isolation alongside Iran. Iran's Economy Minister predicted Washington would "fail again," stating the government has a two-year response plan. An IRGC spokesman threatened strong retaliation against US interests and energy chokepoints if Iranian infrastructure is threatened. Experts note Iran has endured similar pressure for years.
